After your arrival we accompany you to the Ministry of the Interior (Department for Asylum and Migration Policy) Office and to other relevant authorities and institutions and we can also help with insurance and other important matters (the initial medical examination for employment at MENDELU, medical facilities, obtaining a driving licence, waste collection fee payment and communication with other authorities).

Registering after arrival

  • EU citizens

If  the citizens of the EU/EEA and Switzerland intend to stay in the CR for over 30 days and if their accommodation provider does not submit the registration forms on their behalf, they have to report to the Foreign Police in Brno within 30 days of arrival to the Czech Republic. EU citizens need to fill in a short personal questionnaire and submit the necessary documents: passport, employment contract and lease contract.

It is obligatory to report/announce every change of personal details - surname, marital status, passport details, address etc. within 15 business days.

It is recommended to request a registration certificate (temporary residence permit) at the Department of Asylum and Migration Police of the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic (in Czech: Oddělení azylové a migrační politiky Ministerstva vnitra ČR, hereafter written as OAMP MV ČR) if the stay will be longer than 12 months.

  • Non-EU citizens

Non-EU citizens are required to announce themselves to the Department of Asylum and Migration Police of the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic (OAMP MV ČR) or the Foreign Police within 3 days of first entering the Czech Republic and apply for a biometric residence card. A valid passport and an original or a notarised copy (recommended) of the lease contract in Czech language are required to complete this process. Immediately upon receiving the residence permit card it is necessary to submit a copy to the Welcome Office.

Announcing changes of personal details (surname, marital status, address, etc.) at the OAMP MV ČR is required by law. It is recommended to arrange an appointment by phone in advance in case of changed passport. Other personal details such as address and other can be announced via Form for reporting the changes.

  •  Note

Every foreign national who was issued a long term residence permit in the Czech Republic is obliged to take the adaptation and integration course within one year of the date of collecting their residence permit.

A foreigner with approved long term residence permit is allocated an identity number (rodné číslo). EU national is allocated an identity number when applying for registration certificate. An identity number can be requested by Czech authorities eg. when applying for a mortgage, registering a car etc.
